School Meal Debt 3.0
With the amazing generosity of Loudoun residents, businesses and NGOs for the past two years more than $40,000 has been raised to entirely eliminate school meal debt in our Loudoun County Public Schools. This has truly been a grassroots effort.
Once again, we will be launching a campaign to eliminate school meal debt in our public schools. We are pleased to be able to once again work with the Loudoun Education Foundation (LEF). Contributions to LEF are tax deductible.
This year the school meal debt as of the beginning of April stands at nearly $80,000. Given the large amount, schools with the highest school meal debt totals will be paid down first.
Many thanks for your consideration.
Loudoun Residents Join to Help Eliminate Student Lunch Debt
It goes without saying that living in the wealthiest county in America doesn’t mean everyone here is wealthy. There are many families among us who struggle on a daily basis to make ends meet. In Loudoun County, the public schools provide free and reduced meals to 17.5% of our students, more than 14,000 meals, in every single school in the county.
Despite this help there are a number of students whose families do not qualify for free or reduced meals because they are slightly over the income level, but their need is just as great. Federal guidelines limit annual income for a family of 4 to no more than $44,964, not a lot of money for our County.
What can we do?
A grassroots effort is once again organized on a county-wide basis effort to raise funds to help pay down all children’s school meal debt. What better way for residents and business owners to share their good fortune with those who are unable to pay for their own breakfast or lunch. We all know how important good nutrition is to students being able to give their best academically.
Residents and business owners willing to support this effort can do so by clicking on the following link: http://www.loudouneducationfoundation.org/generaldonation.html to donate. In the comments section, please add “School Meal Donation.” Donations are tax deductible.
For those who prefer to pay by check, please make it out to “Loudoun Education Foundation” adding School Meal Donation in the memo and send to this address:

100% of funds raised by this campaign will reduce student meal debt. For the last two years with the generous support of individuals, businesses and an NGO we have been able to reach this goal.
